legacy creative space
The team at TwoSixteen Research and Innovation Lab have launched Legacy Creative Space as a pilot project to explore opportunities for systemic changes in post-secondary education and vocational training for adults with physical and/or intellectual exceptionalities. Legacy Creative Space acts as a resource centre for skills development, training and industry awareness, to facilitate the job placement and/or self-employment of these adults. It seeks to create a SPACE where individuals with exceptionalities feel empowered, confident and included.
The first initiative of the project is an Entrepreneurship Fundamentals Course delivered virtually to students through a series of 7 classes in partnership with The Career Foundation.
Like many families facing special needs crises, we have had to take matters into our own hands to secure our family’s residential future. This initiative is in response to a growing need for families confronted with the challenge of providing full-time care for their adult special needs children, especially as they age out of the school system. Currently, a massive deficit in supportive housing forces parents to shoulder the lifelong financial and physical demands of care alone. The systemic reality for these families is a compounding crisis of severe infrastructure shortages and isolated care. Our cause is a response to this reality. With this pilot project, we seek to inspire or work with other special needs families across Ontario to realize tailored housing solutions for their long-term wellness.
